With an extensive scope of legal experience, Franchise lawyer Elyse Mallins has committed many years to advise her clients on corporate and commercial legal affairs and her practice focusses primarily on assisting Canadian and international franchisors and franchisees, from a variety of industries whereby Elyse has acted as litigation counsel for both large and medium-sized businesses.

As a Franchise lawyer, Elyse advises both franchisors and franchisees on all aspects of franchising, including employment, labour and human rights matters whether they involve customers, employees or third party suppliers.  In addition, Elyse takes a practical and preventative approach including training, policy audits and other compliance issues with franchise laws and regulations, buying and selling of franchises, franchise disputes and exit strategies, renewal and termination of franchises, franchise associations, intellectual property, and commercial leasing.

Prior to joining Devry Smith Frank LLP (DSF) as a partner in the Employment and Labour Law Group, Elyse began her career at a large Bay Street firm representing some of Canada’s most important and high-profile businesses. Subsequently, she progressed in-house where she advised Canada’s largest private-sector employer on commonplace business and labour and employment matters and was responsible for more than 130,000 employees nationally.

In addition to the exceptional legal guidance, risk management, and business operations advice that Elyse provides to her clients, she is also a highly skilled and tenacious advocate, fighting for her client’s rights in mediations, arbitrations, and at trial at various levels of court.

Elyse’s multi-faceted experience has allowed her to sit on both sides of the table in a workplace dispute: she has been both the client and the counsel and takes pride in imparting this knowledge within her talented team, thus providing outstanding and skillful legal representation.
